Not really a memory, but this bit was found in the Bennington Banner edition of 18 Jun 1923.  Bennington is about 34 miles north of Pittsfield.  Apparently this group jumped in a car (probably Al’s) and took a Sunday afternoon drive to Bennington to visit Harry and Jessie.

Harry was born in 1888.  He was Henry and Louise Madrid’s 2nd child.  He was raised by Henry and his 2nd wife Elizabeth Crowe from the time he was about 8.  Elizabeth is the “Mrs Henry Goddeau” referred to in the clipping.  Jessie is Laura Jessie Potter Goddeau, his wife.

I vaguely remember going to Bennington, especially seeing (and climbing once or twice) the Bennington monument.  My dad Larry and our family used to take Gramp (Henry) and Lucy out for Sunday rides; I don’t doubt that we would also go see Harry and Jessie now and then.

The trip up Route 7 to Bennington from Pittsfield is a beautiful drive, especially in the Fall.
